On this page, we present a concise overview of the digital copier marketplace, followed by a listing of current digital copier/printer manufacturers and distributors in the USA. 

A significant portion of the digital office copier marketplace in the United States is controlled by a handful of companies--Canon, Xerox and Ricoh. Recent consolidations in the industry, including the merging of Lanier and Ricoh branch offices, have been dominating the headlines.

There are currently 12 digital copier/printer manufacturers and 21 total suppliers. According to market researchers such as the Gartner Group, approximately 1.2 million new digital copier/printers are sold each year. Sales growth in the industry is flat and current products are considered commodities by many. While Personal Copiers and Multifunctional units account for almost 30 percent of the total new units sold, these copiers produce only 15 percent of the total number of impressions made each year. While Segment 1 through 6 copiers comprise the bulk of the profits for the equipment manufacturers, three other copier/printer types are: hybrid (color/monochrome) copier/printers, digital full-color copier/printers and digital stencil duplicators. All of the copier manufacturers are now producing hybrid color/monochrome copier/printers. Currently, there are 11 suppliers of digital full color copiers, nine of which are manufacturers. Five manufacturers and six vendors of digital stencil duplicators are active. A fourth type, engineering copiers (also sometimes called wide-format copiers), produce large-size copies/prints for engineering and architectural applications. Though not listed below, there are currently 10 engineering copier vendors.

Many of the digital office copier/printer vendors manufacture and sell other types of standalone office equipment, such as facsimile machines, scanners and non-impact printers.
